Automated Food Interleaver

MFT Automated Food Interleaver

Washdown Interleaver System

Separating Stacks of Food Products

The MFT Automated Food Interleaver places sheets of paper, film, or foil under food products (underleaving), including burgers patties, deli meat, bacon, tortillas, cookies, pasta, and other food products. The sheets of material prevent the stacked food products from sticking together in their packaging. The Food Interleaver features a high-speed blade that cuts material precisely before it is delivered onto the conveyor belt, intersecting with the food product traveling on the conveyor. The Automated Food Interleaver can run two rolls of material for two lines of products and double the productivity. Compact and designed to integrate into existing production lines or new production lines seamlessly. Featuring a Washdown design, the MFT Automated Food Interleaver can be washed with harsh chemicals and water without compromising the internal components. It is ideal for sanitary environments, such as food packaging, where the equipment must be consistently and aggressively cleaned.

Cutting Material and Placing Sheets

Custom-size sheets of any material can be expensive and recent supply chain issues make ordering new sheets harder with an unreliable delivery schedule and inventory shortages. Cutting your own sheets for custom sizes is cost-effective and creates inventory on demand. But cutting sheets of paper, film, plastic, labels, or other material for packaging can be a tedious and imprecise task. Safety is also a concern as cutting is usually done by hand and with a sharp blade. Automating the cutting process reduces the probability of an accident with the blade. The precision and accuracy of an automated system reduce material waste for a more lean production saving money and time.

Roll to Sheet Cutting System

Roll-to-Sheet Cutting System

The MFT Roll-to-Sheet Cutting System is a powerful automation system for cutting paper, film, plastic wrap, or labels for packaging production lines. This powerful system features a fast, accurate pneumatic guillotine cutter with a 320mm cutting area. The vacuum take-up maintains tension on the web for accurate cutting and the driven discharge belts keep the material stable for a precise slice. A catch tray can be added for easy removal of the finished product but removal can also be automated with a pneumatic air blast pad that delivers the finished cut product directly into the base product or conveyor. All MFT Systems are highly customizable as we work with you to create a system that best fits your application. Designed to roll up to applications and fit into tight areas, this compact cutting system easily integrates into existing production lines and complete automation systems.

Bagging

Bagging products is a monotonous task that can easily be automated to improve productivity and save time. Automating the bagging process can save hours with many bagging machines capable of cycling at rates over 100 bags per minute. A common bagging application is inserting paper booklets and flyers into a bag. This is commonly done to protect the paper products, which are usually important documents such as safety warnings or instructions. Collating the different paper products in preparation for bagging is done upstream, and then the collated batches are deposited into the bag. The bagging machine also seals the bag before sending it to the next step of the process. Bagging machines can easily be integrated into existing production lines to upgrade any packaging process.

MFT Bagger System

The Bagger System consolidates the batching and bagging process into one efficient system. The system can be configured to match almost any product or bag size. When vertical bagging is preferred, add our Flexible Discharge to redirect product flow. The bag material is not a problem as MFT Automation also offers accessories to minimize static that comes with bagging. Our experienced automation experts work with the customer to find the most effective configuration for their bagging process. MFT Automation is a one-stop shop for bagging solutions with a wide range of friction feeders, conveyors, and baggers.

Testing Booklets

Testing Booklets

From university admission tests to the annual benchmarking state education tests, the security and quality of the test booklets are top priorities. Often times these testing booklets need to be sealed before they’re delivered to test takers to prevent cheating, such as obtaining the test questions before the test. A common sealing method for test booklets is tabbing. Tabbing refers to folding over pressure-sensitive labels to seal boxes, booklets, direct mailers, and other folded media. This is commonly done to keep folded media from opening, for security, and quality control. Automated tabbing looks more professional and takes a fraction of the time compared to manual hand tabbing.

MFT Tabbing System

The Tabbing System utilizes MFT Automation’s robust equipment to seal test booklets. The Tabbing System features an ip3 Series Friction Feeder,  Driven Discharges, High-Speed Labelers, and an Automatic Product Loader (APL). The high-performance Friction Feeder automatically feeds the booklets into the system while the APL expands the Friction Feeders capacity for long uninterrupted runs. The High-Speed Labeler applies the wafer seal to the foredge of the test booklet as a conveyor belt carries it through the system. The Friction Feeder and Driven Discharge work in tandem to feed and control the product for the seal’s most accurate and precise placement. A Folding Assembly then folds the label over test booklet pages to seal it. A process that takes minutes by hand is done in seconds with high accuracy and precision with professional-level results. Like most MFT systems, the Tabbing System can be customized and configured to fit your application.

Extended Content Labels

Extended Content Labeler

Extended Content Labels (ECL) are pressure-sensitive labels that fold or pop out from the surface of the package to deliver more information to the customer. ECLs are commonly found in the pharmaceutical, medical, chemical, and pesticide industries due to the industries’ strict standards that require extensive and in-depth health and safety information to be present on small packaging, such as pill bottles and small cartons. Beyond information requirements, ECLs can be used for coupons, game and sweepstake pieces, ingredients, recipes, promotional items, and more. There are a variety of different types of ECLs but the most common types of ECLs are Peel Labels and Booklet Labels.

Peel-Back Labels

Peel-back labels are a type of ECL that lay flat on the packaging and then peels away to reveal more information on the back. The label can then be resealed to preserve the packaging. Peel-back labels increase the space on the label for eye-catching designs and more without sacrificing important or required information.

Booklet Labels

Booklet labels can provide several pages of information while using very little surface area. Usually in the form of a large sheet and folded to create a booklet, the label’s multiple pages lay flat on the packaging until unsealed and unfolded. With endless folding and design possibilities, booklet labels are a versatile alternative to peel-back labels when an extensive amount of information is required or wanted.

MFT Automation Solutions

MFT Labelers

ECLs labels can be applied to any smooth surface using a high-performance labeler. MFT Automation has a catalog of high-performance and high-speed labelers to tackle the most demanding labeling challenges. From the High-Speed Modular line to the Hygienic Washdown Labeler for sanitary environments, MFT Automation has a wide range of labelers to fit your application.

Booklet to Web

The MFT Booklet to Web System uses the proven and patented Lead-Edge Registration technology that eliminates product skewing as it is fed through the system. Hard carcass belts pull the rigid folded edge of the booklet forward into lugs to quickly square the products with accuracy and precision that carries into the final placement onto the web. This avoids pushing against the open trailing edge of the ECL, which may not properly register the products. With the ability to be mounted directly onto a web printing system, the Booklet to Web system easily integrates into existing lines for more productivity.

With over 25 years of experience in the packaging automation industry, MFT Automation works directly with customers to solve their automation challenges. Contact us at 1-651-407-3100 or request a quote to discuss your application further.
